General

The Germany Explorer Award recognises contacts with or activations of different German municipalities. Each municipality is identified by its official municipality code (AGS) and counts only once in each category.

Activator

1. The entire radio station must be located within the boundaries of the activated municipality.
2. A valid activation requires at least four QSOs with four different stations on the same UTC day.
3. Operations must be portable or from a stationary vehicle. Operating outdoors, from parked cars or motorhomes, or from simple hiking shelters is permitted.
4. Operating from moving vehicles, residential buildings, holiday cottages, apartments, hotels or other buildings used as permanent accommodation is not permitted.
5. All permitted amateur radio bands and modes may be used. Contacts via terrestrial repeaters do not count.
6. QSOs must be recorded in the GMA log. Any suitable power source may be used.

Chaser

Each different municipality counts once, regardless of the number of QSOs. Contacts must be recorded in the GMA Chaser log. The public Chaser evaluation is available without logging in to GMA.

Award levels and certificates

Award levels start at 10, 25, 50, 100, 250 and 500 municipalities, followed by increments of 250. Activator and Chaser awards are evaluated separately. Earned certificates can be downloaded as PDFs with consecutive award numbers. Previously assigned numbers remain unchanged on subsequent downloads.

Find the award under the “Awards” menu. A municipality/AGS search is available for activators. The general GMA rules also apply.
